After the scene faded from black to show a mahogany colored door, a knock was heard. The camera panned out and gave the viewers a panoramic view of the surroundings, although there was not much to see, just several locker rooms for the EBWF superstars... Trent? Sat on the floor, behind his stuff. He replied to the knock on the door with a raspy, deep, almost guthural voice.
Trent?: Come in.
The door opened and in came Michael Cole, who smiled at Trent?
Michael Cole: Believe it or not! I did my homework?
Trent's voice continued to be deep and raspy.
Trent?: Huh? What do you mean?
Michael Cole: I know why you're doing that voice!
Trent?: You do, huh?
Michael Cole: Yes! Given you are in the second round of the EBWF King of The Ring Tournament against The Viper, Randy Orton you are making an impersonation of the famous game character, Solid Snake! Right? To show that you're the superior reptile and that you're not afraid of The Viper coiling up for Warfare next week? Pretty Impressive huh?
Trent?: Actually, I have a really, really sore throat... And I can't talk much. Let's do this later.
Michael Cole looked down and sighed, leaving the locker room as the scene faded to black.
INTERLUDE
Why "Trent?" Why a question mark, not an exclamation mark, a dollar sign, an at sign? The question answers on its own... I don't know. Maybe it is because I have quite a few doubts in my life.
Could I beat Battletoads on the NES?
Will Mother 3 (aka Earthbound 2) eve be released in the United States?
Can I lick my own Elbow? Can other people lick their elbows? (Writer's note: Go ahead, try. This piece isn't going anywhere)
The answers to those questions are quite obvious: No. Hell no. And no, you can't lick your elbow, but I'm chuckling by imagining you doing it.
But let's face it, those are stupid questions...
Then come all those questions that had crossed every professional wrestler's mind at least once: Will I define an era in wrestling? Will I ever headline WrestleMania? I guess only time will tell. We could say I answer to those questions day by day, with training and working my ass off every time I am in front of a crowd.
As I've spend my days in EBWF... A truckload of questions constantly bug and annoy my mind. They're as annoying as a swarm of Zubats inside a cave... Remember those?
For example... What is really a friend?
Who can you blindly trust? If you can trust anyone... That is.
U mad, mon chéri? |
What is love? Does it really last forever?
For as long as all those questions continue bugging my brain, I shall be known as Trent? And you can rest assured I will not let one day go by without at least attempting to answer one of these questions.
Taped segments were a piece of cake, right? right? NOT. There he was, sweating bullets. Sure, it was a taped segment... And Trent? was cool with it, until he found he was going to be interviewed by JIM FUCKING ROSS! Now you get it? Trent? turned down his mom's advice to wear a tux to the interview, and chose to wear a black Trent? T-shirt, a backwards baseball cap, black denim pants and white converse sneakers. Trent often went to a corner before his matches, segments or anything similar and found his happy, confident place... He was interrupted by a pat on his back.
Jim Ross: Don't tell me you're nervous!
Trent?: Eh, well... This is the first time I am actually getting interviewed and not pushing around The Coach or Michael Cole.
Jim Ross: Calm down, young buck! Let's get ready.
They sat on the set, which consisted on a black curtain on the back, two chair sitting right in front of each other. The EBWF crew members positioned the lighting over the chairs, Jim Ross took a seat on the chair to his right and took out his eye medication... He popped a couple of drops into his affected eye and smiled at Trent?
Jim Ross: Let's just pretend I'm moved and honored to have you here, so moved I am crying!
Jim Ross smiled and Trent? nodded, he sat down across JR. The cameras began rolling and one of the greatest promoters to ever live began interviewing him. Cowboy hat, his official BBQ shirt on, everything!
Jim Ross: My guest at this time is one of the youngsters in the EBWF locker room, Trent? Did I say that right? Trent?
Trent?: You did J.R! I'm glad to be here.
Jim Ross: Alright Trent?, It must have been really difficult to have faced your former friend Curt Hawkins in the first round of the King of the Ring tournament in a match where he said he would walk out of the company if he lost... Do you think he just said that to put pressure on you? Or did he really walk?
Trent?: J.R. I am going to be brutally honest... I don't know. Maybe a year ago I would have let Curt beat me, for the sake of our friendship... But after all that what happened, I'm not sure on who to trust besides AJ Lee and Zack.
Jim Ross: How did you feel, knowing this will probably be the last time you met with Curt Hawkins in a ring.
Trent?: It wasn't easy J.R. I mean... Curt has held some gold and has won some matches here in EBWF, but his career seems lackluster compared to Triple H's, Edge's or Randy Orton's. But I would rather match up against Triple H or Chris Jericho any day, over facing Curt. Sure, we all know Triple H always brings his sledgehammer to the party; as we all remember Randy Orton punting Paul London to the year 3000. But there is no pain as the one you feel when you are betrayed by someone you didn't think was capable of hurting you.
Jim Ross: Do you still hold a grudge against Hawkins for what he did?
Trent?: I try not to... And if he calls me someday and wants to straighten things up, I will do my best to listen and seal the deal with a hug. But Hawkins is gone, and I am left with a whole bunch of guys that might be after my head... Bully Ray, Cody Rhodes, even the Shield... Thanks to what happened with Hawkins and Maryse I am pretty much more aware of my surroundings... Which in the end was what costed me my spot in the King of the Ring finals last year, remember?
Footage was shown of last year's tournament, on how Trent? was jumped before his semi finals match, on how Cody Rhodes knocked him out with a masked headbutt.
Jim Ross: Last year the EBWF universe really considered you were one of the best prospects to win the tournament, Trent? But the reason why you probably didn't win it, was because you were too green... And I don't mean this with any disrespect. But you've never had to work multiple matches in one night, and your success was soon the target of fellow wrestler's jealousness. What I am trying to say is, you probably didn't win because you didn't have enough experience... Or as a gamer would say XP.
Trent? was marking the F out after Ross' comment. He just smiled.
Jim Ross: Was that the closest you've seen yourself to the EBWF World Title picture?
Trent?: Probably not. The closest I've been to being an EBWF World Champion was when I competed in the Elimination Chamber.
Jim Ross: Yeah, I called that mach.
Trent?: Don't you call them all?
Jim Ross smiled.
Jim Ross: Since the moment you started, I really hoped all that energy you had would last for the entire match. I believe it was your first ever Elimination Chamber, and you went all out on your opponents, I remember Wes Ikeda doing commentary... He was impressed, but he had an advice for you, and advice you might not have heard unless you watched the review... He said...
Trent?: "That young buck better slow down, or he's going to get knocked out before he even gets started."
Jim Ross nodded.
Jim Ross: Because that's the point of losing matches and taking bumps... Learning to get up faster or to even avoid them. Now, the EBWF universe really hopes to see you shine in this tournament... But it is definitely not going to be an easy task... On your side of the brackets you have superstars like Triple H, Bret Hart, Syxx and your opponent on the second round, the youngest EBWF World Champion and longest reigning champion... Randy Orton.
Trent?: Now that you mention my quick pace in matches, how I ran out of gas in the middle of a match... I have to confess that ever since I signed my EBWF contract, my eyes have been locked on breaking Alex Shelley's record for being the youngest EBWF World Champion... But since I aged and I can't do it anymore, I realized that what really matters is getting there, and now how fast... Sure, Shelley was the youngest, but he has only been World Champion once. Randy Orton on the other hand might not be the youngest, but he is the longest reigning World Champion... And topping that is definitely going to be a challenge.
Jim Ross: Even though Randy has been more out of the ring than in it for the past few months, he showed no signs of ring rust, after beating The Shield for the Tag Team championship, but he also defeated Seth Rollins in the first round of the tournament. Now, The shield have been dominating EBWF since WrestleMania XI... And Randy Orton has been able to beat them not once, but twice.
Trent?: That only shows how Randy Orton is probably my biggest challenge up to now... The fact he beat Rollins and Ambrose just motivates me more. Sure, I've beaten them a couple of times... But this time they are on top of the wave, they're the men to beat...
Jim Ross: You say Randy Orton is probably the biggest challenge you have faced during your career... Before this match was scheduled to happen, what was your biggest Challenge?
Trent?: John Cena. I faced Cena just a couple of months after my debut and beat him for the EBWF Tag Team Titles... I faced him in the King of the Ring Quarterfinals and beat him as well. Cena was just made for wrestling, I can tell you that... Now I have never been in the ring with Orton, but I've watched him carefully throughout these years...
Jim Ross: Are you a fan?
Trent?: Not really, but how can you miss the guy who is on top of the wave? Beating Jericho, beating Cena, Beating Mr. Kennedy, beating D-Generation X... He has proven time and time again that the EBWF is his yard, and no matter how much time off he takes, he just comes back and reminds it to us every now and again.
Jim Ross: Trent? You're acknowledging that Randy Orton has far more experience and has shown the EBWF Universe he has what it takes to be the King of the Ring... Probably more than you? Does that mean you're admitting he might beat you?
Trent?: Who's to say? J.R. anything can happen in that match... No one expected I would defeat John Cena last year... No one thought I had doper rhymes than he did. Randy Orton should be aware he is not facing some old wrestler looking for a nostalgia run, or a dumbfounded youngling who had just recently debuted... J.R. I've been in the EBWF for over a year, and I've paid my dues: for being gullible, for being innocent, for trusting anyone and helping everyone who needed it. Not anymore J.R. Let's just say I am becoming more ring smart than ever before. Orton has got the blood lineage, the talent, the athleticism, he has proven many times he deserves to be on top of the mountain. But I am thirsting, craving, wanting a shot at greatness, probably more badly than Randy is. Sure, he loves to wrestle and he is amazingly good at it. But he can't fall asleep while on top of the mountain... Because there are several EBWF superstars who have been climbing, looking for that spot. You got AJ Styles, you got the Miz, you got Zack Ryder, Fandango, Cody Rhodes, Syxx! Shield, nWo, D-X, EBWF: no matter who you're aligned with... At the end of the day we all want to be King of the Ring. You can bet your hat and your BBQ sauce I will go out there at Warfare and give Randy Orton the match of his lifetime! You said it before... He has beaten superstars who have proved themselves in the past: Triple H, John Cena, The Shield... I would like to see him facing someone hungry for success!
Jim Ross: Well, you sure look determined to win this tournament!
The camera shifted to Trent? as he looked into the lens.
Trent?: You know Jim? The fact I should've won this last year and didn't is what hurts me the most, is what will drive me this year to the King of the Ring finals, to Summerslam, to the World Title, where I will even the score with Dean Ambrose. This year I have all the tools and the experience... So you can bring Triple H, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels! I am ready for them! I am ready for Edge, Cena and Angle in the finals! Because while they were back home, enjoying their retirement and living off their successful careers... I was here, watching ballroom dancers and crazed hunters kick my ass, allowing women to manipulate me and watching my best friend betray me... You know Barbecues J.R., you might as well know which fire burns better! Randy Orton says he is the 12 of Swords? I am the NUMBER SIGNING GAMING ACE! AND SOON TO BE KING OF THE RING! SO COME AT ME SHIELD! COME AT ME LEGENDS! COME AT ME VIPER! COIL! STRIKE! I'M SURE THE GAMESHARK WILL BE ENOUGH TO DEAL WITH THE POISON OF THE VIPER!
Trent? exhaled, he was gripping the sides of the chair he was on as the scene faded to black.
